Chart analysis for binary options trading
The nuts and bolts of binary options trading are relatively straightforward. To make a long-term profit and avoid heavy losses however, you need to develop a solid trading plan and get your analysis right.
In this lesson we will focus on how technical analysis and the use of price charts can help you determine which asset to trade, which direction prices will move, what time frame will work best for you and at which levels you should enter trades. We will also introduce some of the main technical indicators that binary options traders find useful.
The importance of charts in binary options trading
Technical analysis involves the study of charts to identify historic patterns in a price that tend to repeat themselves under similar conditions. It is considered the most reliable form of analysis for binary options traders and will help you form a view on how prices are likely to behave in the short and long term.
Technical analysis: the basics
Most technical analysis relies on the historical observation that asset prices have a tendency to hit areas of support or resistance through which they struggle to fall or rise, respectively. If these barriers are broken, price movements in the direction of the breach often gain momentum.
There are two main approaches to technical analysis that can help you identify support and resistance levels and predict how prices will respond to them: patterns and technical indicators. Some binary options traders favour one over the other. Many use a combination of both.
Traders who focus on technical indicators rely on indicators such as MACD, ADX and stochastics to alert them to trading opportunities.
Traders who focus on patterns try to identify specific shapes such as so-called ‘double top’ and ‘head and shoulders’ patterns as they form on their price charts.
One of the key challenges with this analysis style is that real-life chart patterns are rarely as picture perfect as the textbook examples. Traders therefore have to make a decision on whether what they see on their chart is a bonafide trading signal or not. As prices are constantly in motion, they also have to learn to anticipate a pattern forming before it completes, and to act on it fast.
Whichever approach you decide works for you, be careful not to over-complicate your analysis by focusing on too many indicators or patterns at once. A cluttered chart is hard to read and less reliable.
How to choose an asset to trade
Choosing the right asset or assets to trade with binary options can be key to your success.
It is possible to trade binaries on a wide range of underlying assets, from stocks and indices to commodities and foreign exchange, so make sure you choose a broker that offers you plenty of flexibility.
Different assets behave differently, and some work better with certain indicators, price patterns or time frames than others. Foreign exchange markets, for example, tend to move fast. A binary options trader focusing on the USD-GBP currency pair will therefore probably want to use charts with shorter time frames than might a trader of an industry index.

Be careful that you don’t try and trade too many assets at once – it’s far better to familiarise yourself with one or two and master your approach to them.
How to identify a trend or trend reversal
Because binary options trading at its heart involves betting on whether an asset price will rise or fall, identifying price trends and recognising when they may be about to run out of steam or change direction is one of the most important skills you must develop.
For traders that rely on technical indicators, one signal that an upward trend could be about to switch direction and reverse to the downside is when moving averages display a downward cross. When moving averages show an upward cross, this can signal that a downward trend will change to an upward move.
Another way that binary options traders can form a view on whether an existing trend is going to continue or reverse is by looking out for the so-called 1-2-3 setup.
This setup forms when the price of an asset continues moving higher or lower in the direction of an existing trend but then stops and pulls back slightly before continuing the trend.
One way of identifying the 1-2-3 setup is by monitoring Fibonacci levels to see if the price pullback is greater than 38.2% of the previous move. If it isn’t, most binary options traders conclude that the trend will soon continue and use the pullback as an attractive entry point for a new binary trade in the direction of the original trend.
If the 1-2-3 pattern fails to complete and price pullbacks are greater than 38.2% of the previous move, binary options traders often conclude that the trend is reversing. A double-bottom shape resembling the letter ‘W’ will sometimes form on the chart before the reversal gets underway.
Some binary options traders meanwhile use a combination of the Fibonacci retracement tool provided by most charting software and the stochastic oscillator.
The Fibonacci retracement tool helps traders identify when a price correction or retracement in the midst of a wider trend is about to end and the initial trend continue. As with the 1-2-3 setup, it allows traders to buy binary options traders at around the point the trend restarts.
To ensure a high probability trade, many will also wait for the stochastic oscillator – a technical indicator that identifies when a price has become ‘overbought’ (over 70 on the indicator index) or ‘oversold’ (below 30 on the indicator index) – to tell them a reversal is likely.
How to choose a time frame and expiry time
Price charts are broken into small bites known as time frames. These typically last for 1, 5, 15, 30, 45, 60 or 90 minutes, or for a whole day, week or month.
Most binary options traders start off using daily or weekly charts, and then graduate towards shorter time frames as they gain experience and if this suits their trading style and favoured underlying assets. Even for very short-term traders, however, it is sensible to check longer-dated charts at least daily, if only to keep abreast of slow-moving trends and form a view on how they might affect short-term price action.
Because binary options expire worthless if a certain scenario is not achieved within a specified time frame, they are extremely time sensitive. This means it is crucial to pick the right time frame and expiry so that trends have enough room to run.
If, for example, you correctly identify a downward trend and buy a put option, you could find your option expires out of the money if a retracement or correction to that trend occurs just before the contract runs out. In this scenario, you should have chosen an option with a longer time frame to allow the retracement to end and the trend to resume.
One way traders can allow themselves more room in such a scenario is by purchasing a roll over from their broker, if they offer this tool. A roll over allows you to extend the expiry time of your option if a price correction occurs and you think it will be short-lived.
One popular rule of thumb among binary options traders choosing expiry times is to go for one that is at least three times as long as the time frame of the strategy you have chosen. If, for example, the strategy you are following uses a five-minute chart, choose an expiry time of at least 15 minutes.
Also, try and gauge market volatility and momentum. If prices start to move very quickly after you received your trading signal, go for a shorter expiry time. If moves take a while to get going, opt for a longer expiry time.
Similarly, if market conditions are very volatile or choppy, use a shorter expiry time than you would in slow, ranging markets or periods of fairly smooth price action.
So far you have learned that:
- by analysing historic price movements on the charts you can draw conclusions about its future direction
- binary options traders use support & resistance, price patterns and indicators to predict price movements
- a good way to choose an asset is by checking how fast or slow it tends to move
- Binary option traders typically use moving average crossovers, the so called ‘1-2-3 pattern’ or Fibonacci retracements to determine market direction
- combining two or more tools such as Fibonacci retracements and stochastics can give you powerful trading signals
- binary option traders generally go for an expiry time that is at least 3 times longer than the time frame they take their signals from
What is Technical Analysis in Binary Options Trading?
When traders find their preferred methods of trading and calibrating their binary options strategies, trading becomes amazingly interesting and exhilarating. Binary options traders have various tools and analysis methods at their disposal to get the important info to base their trading decisions on.
However, the technical analysis seems to be the most used for binary options trading namely because of its focus on charts and price action.
This article has the goal of explaining and highlighting the importance and usefulness of technical analysis in binary options trading.
What does Technical Analysis Offer in Binary Options Trading?
Binary options traders very often use the technical analysis, mostly because it uses financial charts as main means of analysis. One of the main points that traders need to realize is that having a good knowledge base is actually the key to boosting your potential of profit opportunity in binary options trading. The more knowledge you have, the easier it is for you to use the analytical tools correctly and act accordingly.
Traders depend on technical analysis to help them be as prepared as possible for the trades they are planning to make. What binary options traders need to do is be able to predict how the underlying asset price will be moving in a predetermined time frame. When you have a correct analysis then you are able to make better predictions which in turn makes you more prone to adequately boosting your earning potential.
Technical analysis has a few subtypes that we will go over in a couple of next sections.
Trend Following in Technical Analysis
What exactly does Trend following refer to in the context of a binary options trading industry? Well, this analytical method focuses on following the historical trends in order to learn how the current and future market trends would potentially develop.
If we think about this component, it actually makes a lot of sense. In order to understand present trends, we need to be able to understand how previous trends developed, moved and what influenced them. This way your trade decisions might have a much more substantial base of information upon which it can be configured.
Obviously, traders are advised not to place trades against the trend unless you get across a specific situation, where there is a clear indication that the trend in question is weakening.
Momentum in Technical Analysis
This type of analysis refers to a change in price over a certain time frame and thus giving the trader information on how fast the price is moving downwards or upwards.
Momentum analysis makes use of an oscillator as its main chart type. The way it calculates the price change over time is by just subtracting a closing price of a chosen period from a closing price of a previous period. After the calculation is made, the result is visually represented in a graph. Depending on the result the oscillator will generate a positive or a negative value for the trader.
Mean Reversion in Technical Analysis
Mean reversion calculates the mean of a price of an underlying asset. What exactly does this mean and why do you need to know about it?
Well, since we know that the asset prices are rising or falling continuously, it is clear that sometimes what we need to figure out is what is the mean of those asset prices. This helps traders to identify if the price will possibly settle at a certain calculated point. Obviously, this may help traders to figure out and guess whether the price in question will be rising or falling in a certain time frame.
Pattern Recognition in Technical Analysis
This technical analysis subtype is pretty self-explanatory. It refers to a type of analysis where the product of the analysis is in a pattern form. This means that the tool searches for patterns that are happening within the framework of a certain trend. If you are able to identify a trend then obviously it will be easier for you to possibly correctly predict the movement of the price.
This is a very helpful method for traders that deal with assets that have a strong inclination for having pattern changes.
Support and Resistance Levels
These factors are not a part of technical analysis per se, but regardless of that, they are a crucial part of any binary options strategy.
Support level refers to the level that helps support the asset price in a way that it enables the price to stay above the critical line. Also, if the asset price does indeed fall below this indicated level, it will rise pretty quickly. Similarly, resistance levels refer to levels that prevent the asset price from rising above a certain point.
How are binary options traders supposed to set up and use these elements while developing their binary options strategy?
This particular method is very helpful when trying to establish positions by locating your enter or exit points. In case either one of your lines is breached, that does not mean they are going to be deleted, it will simply adjust. Once your lines are crossed upside, what was once your resistance now becomes a support line.
The only issue with this specific strategy is that it doesn’t necessarily depict the direction in which the asset price is moving. However, when combined with other techniques and analysis, support and resistance levels help binary options traders to identify crucial positions and precise timing for a Call or a Put.
The overall conclusion is that this particular type of analysis is extremely helpful in creating a potentially sustainable trading strategy. Obviously, traders need to continuously educate themselves in order for them to pinpoint which strategy is adequate for which preferred outcome. Once you have a clear vision on what it takes to build your chosen strategy then you begin playing with specific analytical tools and methods. Each one has its benefits but only you know if the certain method or tool will be beneficial to your overall binary options trading strategy.
Binary Options Day Trading 2020
Binary options trading hinges on a simple question – will the underlying asset be above or below a certain price at a specified time? If so, you can make substantial profits with one of the most straightforward financial instruments to trade. But what exactly are binary options, and what are their benefits and drawbacks? This page will answer those questions, as well as detailing how to start day trading binary options, including strategies, tips, and regional differences to be aware of. Use the broker top list to compare the best binary brokers for day trading 2020.
What Are Binary Options?
Firstly, let’s have a look at how it all works. Put simply, binary options are a derivative that can be traded on any instrument or market. They appeal because they are straightforward. You know precisely how much you could win, or lose before you make the trade. No complex maths and calculator is required. This is why they are also known as ‘all or nothing’ trades.
If you anticipate news announcements, quarterly reviews, or global trends, then you may be able to make an accurate determination as to whether the price is going to increase or decline at a certain point in the future, turning a profit.
There is a whole host of derivatives to choose between. You can trade binary options on commodity value, such as aluminium and crude oil. You can opt for a stock price, such as Amazon and Facebook. There are foreign exchange rate options, including all the major and minor pairs. Even cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Litecoin are on the menu.
A Brief History
If you want to start trading binary options full-time, a detailed understanding of their origins will help. Binary or ‘digital’ options have been around for decades. Originally though, it was only large institutions and the fabulously wealthy that had access. However, 2008 saw the US Securities and Exchange Commission open the floodgates by allowing binary options to be traded through an exchange.
The internet and technology have since given the whole world access to these ‘digital’ options. As it stands, with low barriers to entry for savvy day traders and a simple to understand preposition, the demand for these digital trades will only increase.
There are a number of different option types to choose from. The most popular types are listed in the brief glossary below.
- Up/Down (High/Low) – The most simple and prevalent binary option. Will the price be higher or lower than the current price when the expiry time comes?
- In/Out (Range or Boundary) – A ‘high’ and ‘low’ figure will be set. You are then making a determination as to whether the price will finish within or outside of these boundaries.
- Touch/No Touch – Levels will be set that are either higher or lower than the current price. You then enter a position as to whether the price will ‘touch’ these levels between the time of trade and expiry. Payout will come as soon as the touch takes place.
- Ladder – These are similar to up/down trades. However, instead of using the current price, the ladder will have pre-determined levels that are staggered up or down. These normally demand a substantial price move. The flip side of this is returns will frequently exceed 100%. Although it is worth noting, both sides of a trade are not always available.
Another important component of binary options is expiry times. This is when the trade will end and the point that determines whether you have won or lost. These times can range from 30 seconds and 1 minute (turbos) to a full day (end of day), and even up to a whole year.
As an intraday trader though, you will be more concerned with trading 5 and 30-minute binary options. Opt for binaries with 1 minute expiry times though and you have the ability to make a high number of trades in a single day.
Is Trading Binary Options Legal?
Despite the somewhat negative reputation, the reality is binary options are legal. The majority of companies operate fairly. Opinions have been split because there are some out there that operate scams.
Regulation in certain regions has meant binaries have been withdrawn from the retail market. In the EU for example. But professional traders can still use them. In regions such as India and Australia, binary are legal – but traders should make sure they use a reputable broker, and read our section below on avoiding scams.
Scams & Frauds
The binary reputation has suffered from dishonest marketing and cybercrime. Too many unregulated brokers promise quick cash, whilst operating frauds. Regulators are on the case and this concern should soon be alleviated.
Binaries themselves are perfectly legitimate, but steer clear of ‘instant money’ promises, brokers that cold call, and celebrity endorsements, plus any claims that you can ‘start trading binary options for free’.
So it isn’t a question good or bad, it’s simply a question of being alert to the dangers and knowing what to look out for. If you’re unsure about a broker, ask the question in a live trading room to check they’re properly regulated.
Binary Options Vs CFD Trading
Although in some ways similar, there remain some crucial differences between binary options and CFDs. With CFDs, you have potentially unlimited risk. If the price of the asset moves significantly, the value of the trade can grow very large, very quickly – for better or worse.
Whereas binary options work slightly differently. Whilst you are still investing without owning the asset in question, the gain and loss rate is fixed. With a call option, it doesn’t matter if the price rockets, you retain the same percentage as if it rose by just a couple of pips.
Likewise, if the price sinks to zero, you’ll only lose what you put in. So, to define the difference – with binary options you get fixed risk.
Having said that, just as if it was binary options versus forex trading, you are restrained in your profit potential.
Why Trade Binary Options?
If you want to profit trading binary options, you need to first understand both their pros and cons. You need to make sure binary options will suit your trading style, risk tolerance, and capital requirements.
There is a whole host of attractive benefits to trading with binary options. The greatest advantages have been outlined below.
- Simplicity – Because you are making a determination on only one factor, direction, your bet is straightforward. The price can only go up or down. You also don’t need to concern yourself with when the trade will end, the expiry time takes care of that. Whereas in other markets, you may need a system to limit your losses, such as a stop-loss.
- Fixed risk – Trade stocks, gold, and crude oil and you’ve got a vast number of factors to contend with, from slippage and margin to news events and price re-quotes. With binaries, your risk is kept to a minimum with far fewer parameters.
- Trade control – Because you know what you may make or lose before you enter the trade, you have greater control from the start. Trade in stocks, for example, and you have no guarantee that your trade will make the entry price.
- Profit potential – Compared to other trading, the returns in binaries are extremely attractive. Some brokerages promise payouts of up to 90% on a single trade. If you’re looking to make simple trades with large profit potential, binaries could well be worth a look in.
- Choice – Rather than being constrained to a specific market, e.g. cryptocurrency or stocks, binary options gift traders the opportunity to trade instruments across virtually all markets, allowing you start currency, indices, and bonds trading if you so wish.
- Accessibility –In the binary options game, it’s always the best trading hours somewhere on the globe. So, you can login at night, or on the weekends and join the groups of avid traders attempting to turn daily profits. Real-time charts are available for every market so if you’ve got the time you can invest 24 hours a day.
Whilst there are plenty of reasons to delve into trading on binary options, there remain several downsides worth highlighting:
- Reduced trading odds – Whilst you can benefit from trades that offer in excess of 80% payouts, these are often when the expiry date is some time away from the trade date. If the odds of your binary trade succeeding are extremely high you may have to make do with reduced payout odds.
- Limited trading tools – Whilst most brokerages offer advanced charting and analysis capabilities, trading tools for binary traders often fall short of the mark. Fortunately, there are other online sources for these graphs and tools, plus brokers are working swiftly to increase their offerings.
- Price of losing – Your odds are tilted in favour of losing trades. Approximately for every 70% profit, the corresponding loss of the same trade would result in an 85% loss. This means you need a win percentage of at least 55% to break-even.
- Risk management – Unlike other markets, brokers often set a trading floor, with minimum accounts a trader needs to enter the market. This means losing capital can happen with ease. Whilst a stocks broker may permit you to open an account with $250, trading micro-lots, most binary brokers won’t allow $50 trades. So, even with $250 in your account, just five trades that don’t go your way could see you sink into the red.

How Does Trading Binary Options Work?
Trading binary options for beginners is straightforward. Simply follow the steps outlined below.
Step 1 – Find a broker
This is one of the most important decisions you will make. You need a broker that meets all your requirements and who will enhance your trade performance. But with so many options out there, how do you know what to look for?
If you’re high-frequency binary trading each day, the commission fees and costs will quickly rack up. You want to maximise your profits so look for brokers with a competitive and transparent fee structure, and remember, different asset classes pay out different amounts.
One point worth investigating is rules around minimum deposits. Whilst some brokers will offer binary options trading with no minimum deposit, many will expect a deposit of close to $50, and some $100. A broker offering low minimum deposits is ideal if you’re strapped for cash. Trading binary with JC and GCI are good choices if you’re looking for low deposits.
Some brokers will specialise in certain assets. If you’re set on crude oil, it may be worth finding a broker that’s geared towards those binaries. You may benefit from relevant news feeds and the most prudent option choices available. Trading binary stocks with 212, for example, is ideal for those interested in stocks.
With scams out there it’s important you check your broker is properly regulated by the relevant financial body, e.g. FCA, CySec, CFTC. Trading with 247 Binary Options, IQ option, and Binary.com are all safe bets.
Binary options platforms are your gateway to the market and where you’ll spend many hours a day. There are now many online trading platforms, so, make sure it’s easy to use and offers all the charts, patterns and tools you need to make smart and accurate trade decisions. For example, will you be trading binary options with candlesticks or more obscure charts?
Both Keystone and Nadex offer strong binary options trading platforms, as does MT4. Before you buy, conduct a thorough trading platform comparison and check reviews.
Any problem could cost you time, and as an intraday trader, time can cost you serious cash. So, check the broker offers reliable support. Some brokers will offer 24/7 customer support through calls, live chat, and in a number of languages. Binary options trading with Etrade and 24 Option are smart moves if you want top quality support.
A growing number of people use mobile devices and tablets to enhance their trading experience. However, software for trading binary options varies hugely. So, it’s worth checking whether your broker offers cross-platform capabilities. Also, check the charting tools you need will work on your iOS or Android device. Binary options trading with IQ Option, for example, offers fantastic trading apps.
Many brokers will sweeten the deal with some useful add-ons. Some may offer free trading plans, courses, and lessons. So, find out first if they offer free courses online to enhance your trading performance. Some brokers will also offer free binary trading trials so you can try before you buy.
You could also benefit from trading bonuses, tips, the best strategy and trading signals reviews, plus free, practice demo accounts. Not to mention some brokers allow for binary options trading using Paypal. However, don’t be put off by no binary options trading deposit bonus, these can be a sign of potential scams.
For newbies, getting to grips with a demo account first is a sensible idea. Funded with simulated money, you can try numerous assets and options. It’s the perfect place to make mistakes and learn before you put real capital on the line. In addition, you’ll find most free binary options demo accounts require no deposit, so you can start practicing whilst you save that initial capital.
There is no universal best broker, it truly depends on your individual needs. Some brokers offer minimum trades of just a couple of pounds, whilst others require hundreds or even thousands. The solution – do your homework first.
For more guidance on making the right choice, see our brokers page.
Step 2 – Choose An Instrument/Market
You can trade binaries in pretty much everything, including stocks, forex, indices, and commodities. You can bet on anything from the price of natural gas, to the stock price of Google. Opt for an asset you have a good understanding of, that offers promising returns.
Step 3 – Decide On An Expiry Time
As a short-term trader, you’ll probably be more interested in 30 seconds, 1 minute and end of day expiry times. You need to balance binary options trading volume with price movement. Whilst the more trades you make means greater profit potential, it’s better to make fewer and more accurate trades. Also, find a time that compliments your trading style.
Step 4 – Decide On Size
In the binary options game, size does matter. The greater your investment the greater the possible profit. On the flip side, remember the entirety of your investment is on the line. You need an effective money management system that will enable you to make sufficient trades whilst still protecting you from blowing all your capital.
Step 5 – Choose An Option
You will have any number of the options outlined above to choose from. Think carefully about how confident you are in your determination. Consider factors that will jeopardise your investment, and select an option that gives you the best chance of succeeding. Don’t automatically select a ladder trade because you want huge returns, consider which options are the relatively safe bets.
Once you’ve made that decision, check and confirm your trade. Then you can sit back and wait for the trade payout.
Below is a video explaining how to trade binary options on the platform of a leading provider:
Binary trading strategies will differ from trade to trade. What may work for a ladder option in forex, may prove useless in a range option on gold. Having said that, there are two reasons you must have a strategy.
Firstly, a strategy prevents emotions interfering in trade decisions. Fear, greed, and ambition can all lead to errors. A strategy allows you to focus on the maths and data.
Secondly, a strategy allows you to repeat profitable trade decisions. Once you’ve found out how and why that binary option worked, you can replicate it to create consistent profits.
Building A Strategy
There are two crucial elements to your binary options trading method, creating a signal, and deciding how much to trade. The second is essentially money management. How do you go about determining these two steps then?
Step 1 – Creating A Signal
The signal will tell you in which direction the price is going to go, allowing you to make a prediction ahead of time. The two main ways to create signals are to use technical analysis, and the news.
Charts, Patterns & Indicators
If you can identify patterns in your charts, you may be able to predict future price movements. They rest on the idea that ‘history repeats itself’. You can start trading binary options using Heiken-ashi, other candlesticks, and line charts. Armed with charts and patterns, successful traders will build a strategy around their findings.
You can then build indicators into your strategy, telling you when to make a binary option, and which binary option you should go for. These technical tools can prove invaluable, so make sure your broker offers the features available to conduct thorough market analysis.
One of the great things about trading binary is you can use any number of your normal indicators, patterns, and tools to help predict future binary options movements. So, you can start trading with/using:
- Support and resistance levels
- Price action
- Stochastic oscillators
- MACD indicators
- Options close to expiry
For more detailed guidance, see our charts and patterns pages.
You can trade binary options without technical indicators and rely on the news. The benefit of the news is that it’s relatively straightforward to understand and use. You’ll need to look for company announcements, such as the release of financial reports. Alternatively, look for more global news that could impact an entire market, such as a move away from fossil fuels. Small announcements can send prices rocketing or plummeting.
If you can stay in the know you can trade your binary options before the rest of the market catches on. To do that you’ll need to be tuned into a range of news sources. You can browse online and have the TV or radio on in the background. Some of the most useful news sources in terms of trading information are:
- Yahoo Finance
- Business Insider
- Financial Times
Step 2 – How Much You Should Trade
If you’re just starting off it’s often best to keep things simple. Trading the same amount on each trade until you find your feet is sensible. Below are 3 binary options trading strategies for both beginners and experienced traders.
Binary options using the martingale trading strategy aim to recover losses as quickly as possible. To do this you’d trade larger amounts of money in the trades following a loss. So, you’d set an amount that you trade each time, say $250. However, if you lose on that $250, you’d bet $500 on the next trade. If the trade wins, you’ll already be back in the black, rather than being stuck around the break-even mark.
The problem with this strategy is that if you go on a losing streak you can lose a serious amount of capital in a short space of time. So, only use this strategy if you’ve got a relatively accurate means of making trade decisions. If you’re still in the trial and error stage, consider a different approach.
A percentage based system is popular amongst both binary options traders and other traders. The idea is you specify a percentage you’re willing to risk. Between 1-2% is common. So, if you’ve got $10,000 in your account, and your risk value was 2%, you could trade $200 on a single trade.
If you have a greater risk tolerance and consistent results you may want to increase that risk margin to 5%. The benefit of this system is that you should never lose more than you can afford. This makes it an ideal approach to take if you’re new to trading on binary options.
This example is best employed during periods of high volatility and just before the break of important news announcements. This technique can be utilised by traders of all experience levels. It gives you the capability to avoid the call and put option selection, and instead allows putting both on a specified instrument.
You aim to utilise put when the value of the instrument has risen, yet you think that it’s going to decrease soon. Once the descent has begun, place a call option on it, anticipating it to bounce back swiftly. You can also do it in the reverse direction. Simply place a call on the assets prices low and put on the rising asset value.
This significantly increases the chance of at least one of the trade options producing a profitable result. If you’re in a volatile market, this simple system could you see turn handsome profits. This works well as a binary options trading 60 seconds strategy, and will also cover expiry times of up to one day.
Bots & Algorithmic Trading
Once you have honed a strategy that turns you consistent profits, you may want to consider using an automated system to apply it. These robots usually rely on signals and algorithms that can be pre-programmed.
The bots then do all the leg work, trading options on your behalf. The plus side is they can make far more trades than you can do manually, increasing your potential profit margin. They can also trade across different assets and markets.
It’s worth investigating your brokers offering when it comes to auto trading and checking for robot reviews. Many allow you to build a program with relative ease. You can use your own entry points that rely on Bollinger bands, RSI/MFI patterns, and moving averages.
However, even when you’ve got your system up and running, you can’t go into trading binary options on autopilot, you need to stay tuned in. If any mistakes take place, you need to be there to remedy the problem. Technical crashes and unpredictable market changes can all cause issues, so stay vigilant.
Many binary option strategies pdfs fail to sufficiently consider time variables. Certain strategies will perform better with specific time options. You may want to look specifically for a 5-minute binary options strategy. Alternatively, trading 15-minute binary options may better suit your needs. So, whichever strategy above you opt for, ensure you take time into account.
Summing Up Strategy
Trading binary options with success rests on finding a strategy that compliments your trading style. So, consider the instrument you’re going to be trading. Then, employ an effective money management system and use charts and patterns to create telling indicators. Also, utilise news announcements to your advantage.
If you’re trying a new fence, gap, hedging, or any other binary strategy for the first time, why not try it on a trading practice account first? This will allow you to address any issues before you invest your own money.

There currently exists no binary options university. So, explanations as to why that option didn’t work can be hard to come by. Keeping a journal with all your binary option trading results in could solve that issue. A detailed record of each trade, date, and price will help you hone your strategy and increase future profits.
Whether you keep it an excel document or you use tailor-made software, it could well help you avoid future dangers. As an added bonus, it can make filling in tax returns at the end of the year considerably easier. A journal is one of the best-kept secrets in binary options, so now you know, use one.
Trading binary options successfully isn’t just about having the right strategy. If you can’t control your emotions you will make costly mistakes. As Robert Arnott stated, ‘what is comfortable is rarely profitable’. When the pressure kicks in, fear and greed can distract you from the numbers.
You need to accept that losses are part of trading and stick to your strategy anyway. If it’s based on accurate maths and careful technical analysis then you have to keep your faith. As soon as you start acting inconsistently your profits will suffer.
As the popularity of binary options grows across the world, regulatory bodies are rushing to instill order. That means where you trade and the markets you break into can all be governed by different rules and limitations.
If you’re day trading binary options in the UK, for example, you will require a license from the UK gambling commission. If you opt for a broker regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), you’ll be guaranteed an extra level of protection. Beware some brokerages register with the FCA, but this is not the same as regulation.
Brexit has brought with it complications to trading regulations. The MiFID II guidelines were set to be implemented across Europe enforcing rules around binaries, however, the UK may not now implement the guidelines. This means the UK is no longer under pressure from Europe to reclassify binaries as financial instruments.
Binary options trading for US citizens is limited by a choice of just two brokers. Nadex and CBOE are the only two licensed options. Fortunately, they are both huge firms offering competitive prices and a range of different assets to trade binaries on.
Rest Of World
In Australia, the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) runs the show. If you’re interested in brokers based in Cyprus and Israel, then check they are regulated by CySec. In Dubai and the rest of the UAE, binary options are regulated by the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC).
You can also start day trading binary options in Canada, India, Pakistan, South Africa, Malaysia, Kenya, New Zealand, Nigeria, Vietnam, Indonesia, and the Philippines. Each has their own regulatory bodies and different requirements.
So, if you want protection, ensure you do your research before you sign up for a binary broker on the other side of the world.
Another important regional distinction comes in the form of taxes. Some countries consider binary options as a form of gambling, such as the UK. This comes with notable benefits. The HMRC will not charge you any taxes on profits made through binary options. However, in the future binaries may fall under the umbrella of financial derivatives and incur tax obligations.
Having said that, if day trading binaries are your only form of income and you consider yourself a full-time trader, then you may be liable to pay income tax. Whilst you are probably still exempt, it is worth seeking clarification.
Outside the UK, tax regulation differs hugely. Binary options in Japan and Germany come with vastly different tax obligations, for example. So, before you start trading seek advice to ascertain whether you’ll be exempt from tax. If not, will you pay income tax, capital gains tax, business tax, and/or any other form of tax?

Binary Options: Concepts and Trading
Binary options – a popular financial tool for profit. Types of binary options, strategies and indicators for BO. How to choose the right time for the expiration of a binary option and not make the most common mistakes.
The attention of traders trading in the Forex market or on stock exchanges, recently began to attract binary options. If with traditional option contracts Since everything is pretty clear, the prefix “binary” is not completely clear to everyone. Let’s try to understand this tool and get a basic idea of it.
“Binary” – what is it?
So, binary options is an option that has only two options for profitability: either a fixed percentage of profit or a loss. It is this dualism that is characterized by the name “binary”, i.e. consisting of two elements. Various instruments can act as a trading asset for a binary option: currencies, stocks, raw materials and others. The execution time of such a contract varies from a minute to several months, profitability reaches 70-95 %%. If in a nutshell to describe the principle of operation of any type of binary options, then the expression “deal-bet” is best.
Types of Binary Options
Trading binary options operates with five main types:
View 1. Binary option “Cash or nothing” / “All or nothing”
This type of binary options is the most popular among traders. At the time of purchase, he has a certain percentage of profit and price. This amount is the volume of the transaction, and it is to her that the trader risks it. Prior to the purchase of “Сash or nothing” binar, it is required to make a prediction in advance whether the selected asset will rise or fall, a Put / Put or Call / Call option is purchased (see the previous article), respectively.
If in the end, at the time of execution, the trader is right, then he receives a predetermined amount of profit, usually 70-85 %% plus the initial cost of the contract. If the forecast did not materialize, then he loses the invested amount in full. Sometimes companies make a refund when they lose in the amount of 10-15%, but this cannot be considered the rule, rather, it is just a bonus to cheer up.
View 2. Binary option “Asset or nothing” / “Asset or nothing”
The binary option “Asset or nothing” is practically no different from the above “All or nothing”. It can also be bought and sold by setting a certain level, above or below which there will be a price at the time of execution, also receive declared profits or lose the value of the contract. The difference is only in determining the profit, which is expressed in the value of the selected asset.
Which binary options are better?
Choosing binary options for trading
In fact, because profit calculation is automatic, many traders do not even see the difference between the binary options Cash or nothing and Asset or nothing.
View 3. Binary options “One touch” / “One touch”
One touch in execution and trading strategies differs significantly from the previous ones. Having all the same value and profitability, the contract also implies the existence of a certain level of asset price. Knowing him, the trader must predict whether the price reaches this mark in the allotted time period. At the same time, it does not matter at what price the contract closes, the main thing is that the asset touches a fixed level.
View 4. Binary options “No touch” / “Inviolable”
The opposite in name and meaning for the “One touch” binary option is “No touch”. The only difference is the trader’s forecast of whether the price reaches the level specified in the contract. If he believes that he will not achieve, then you should buy the “No touch” option. If at the time of closing the asset did not touch the level, the trader receives the agreed profit. Otherwise, he loses the value of the contract.
View 5. Binary options “Double one touch” and “Double no touch” / “Double one touch” and “Double touch”
These are the most complex, and therefore the least popular types of binary options. In fact, this is a modification of the “One touch” and “No touch” options – the strategy and execution are identical. However, in order to achieve profit, two fixed levels are set, to reach or not to touch which the asset must until the expiration of the exercise time of the option.
Based on your own preferences, offers from binary options brokers., as well as market conditions, it is more profitable to trade different types of binary options. Nevertheless, most traders prefer “Cash or nothing” as the most affordable and easy to understand.
Strategies and indicators for binary options trading
Binary Options Trading Strategies, if you do not go into details, are based on determining the estimated direction of movement of the asset in the terms specified by the contract, as well as the likely time to reach the specified price level. So, to get a fixed profit, you will need to indicate either the level below or above which the price will be after the time you specified, or indicate the mark near which the value of the asset will be in the near future. Your forecast options and trading strategies are closely related to the types of binary options.
Trading robots for binary options
All the pros and cons of using forex experts in binary options trading
In order to correctly predict the direction of the asset price movement and buy a binary option, most traders use forex indicators.
In fact, no special indicators for binary options not being developed. For the most part, traders use signal and arrow Forex indicators, which are adapted for trading binary options. Popular are both built-in terminal and user indicators that allow for a qualitative analysis of the asset – the direction and strength of the trend, possible pivot points, etc.
In addition, in trading binary options, trading robots have been successfully used.
How to trade binary options?
Trading binary options and trading in the Forex currency market are based on the same principles:
- market price moves the same way;
- with binary options the same rules of fundamental and technical analysis work;
- money management rules are also relevant for binary options trading – it is important to determine acceptable risks and manage your capital;
- trading strategies and forex indicators successfully work on binary options.
However, there are a number of differences that stem from the nature of binary options:
- Unlike classical trading, Sell transactions and Buy purchases do not open. When trading binary options, only Call options (price growth is forecasted) and Put options (price reduction is forecasted) are purchased;
- The “lifetime” of a transaction when trading binary options does not depend on the price reaching stop-loss or take-profit levels, as in Forex trading. In BO trading, a fixed option expiration time is determined, at the end of which the transaction is closed with a profit or loss;
- accordingly, take profit and stop loss orders are not used in strategies for binary options trading.

Binary options trading – an intelligent casino for gambling traders
The minimum contract is usually $ 100. At the same time, profit reaches an average of 80%. This, of course, is not comparable with a loss in the event of an erroneous forecast, but the trader can accurately calculate the level of his losses and not exceed them if he does not want to. In addition, some brokers provide the ability to trade binary options without investments.
Quite convenient and easy to use are platforms provided by companies. Most often it is a web platform that has the required set of tools and simple forecast indicators. To some extent, this simplifies the work and it may seem that there is no need to analyze something deeply, trading binary options. In fact, this is not so. Any profitable trading requires knowledge of fundamental and technical analysis, as well as its application. Otherwise, such work turns into a casino, which is unacceptable. Therefore, for a competent approach to trading and evaluating an asset, we recommend that you analyze on your usual platform, transferring transactions to the terminal of the options broker. So, to work with binary options on currency pairs, you can use the full set of available tools of the cTrader or MetaTrader platforms, including indicators, created specifically for these contracts.
Most traders are of the opinion that trading binary options somewhat simpler than classic forex trading. Nevertheless, in trading binary options there are a number of difficulties that are associated with the choice of the expiration dates for the option, because the mistake made during the selection often leads to losses even with the analysis and correctly planned work of the trader.
Dependence of the expiration period of a binary option on the trading style
- With long-term binary options trading (from a month or more), the process of determining the expiration date does not represent any difficulty. It is determined based on the timing of events expected in the future. It could be an expiration date. foreign exchange intervention, change in monetary policy by the Central Bank and more.
- In medium-term trading (from a week to a month), emphasis should not be placed on fundamental economic events, but on the results of technical analysis. In this case, the best choice would be a period of two or three weeks, that is, the average life of a medium-term transaction.
- In short-term trading (up to 1 week) it would be logical to determine the expiration period within a few days. There is one significant point – it is recommended that binary options trading be completed before Friday evening, as over the weekend some events can occur that seriously affect the market picture.
- For intraday binary options trading, the best choice for the expiration date is the end of the trading day, since all fundamental factors have already been won back today, the market is entering a stagnation phase. When trading faster options, the guideline for the expiration dates should be the end of the trading hour.
The choice of the period for trading binary options
So what period should a novice trader choose for profitable binary options trading? Taking into account the fact that short-term options trading, as a rule, is accompanied by a lack of significant trading information, as well as a significant share of excitement, binary options are the best choice, the expiration period of which is no earlier than the end of the trading day.
To achieve more profitable and stable results when trading binary options, it makes sense for a novice trader to try medium-term and long-term trading. The use of super-short terms in binary options trading is not recommended for beginner traders, as they can lead to the formation of a gaming attitude and financial losses. The use of tick options by beginners will generally look like a game in a casino.
Dependence of signal processing time on trading tactics
Along with all of the above, it can be noted that traders often calculate how many bars an open transaction will start to work out, which also allows you to choose the expiration dates of the option. Roughly speaking, for this you need to figure out how many bars will be needed to implement the plan, multiply it by the one used timeframe and then buy the option for the resulting time.
It should be remembered that a certain trading tactic provides for different times necessary for working out a trading signal:
- The fastest for working out a trading signal is trading by candlestick patterns – 2-3 candles.
- Trading on the rebound from the level also implies a quick expiration time – 3-4 candles.
- Trading binary options using breakdown certain levels require a little more time to work out the signal – up to 10 candles.
- The longest period is trend trading, since you have to take into account a possible correction. In this case, the expiration period of the options should be chosen within 20-30 candles.
- When trading using fundamental factors, the range of options expiration periods is very wide. For example, when trading on news, it can be several minutes, when trading on goals that the Central Bank has determined – up to a year.
The most common binary options trading errors
Any financial trading needs to be learned, one way or another, working out its strategy. We will consider the main errors and mistakes of novice traders who trade binary options. It is possible that if you take our advice more carefully, they will help you avoid some bad deals.
1. Trading binary options does not require knowledge
We have already touched upon the consideration of this error at the beginning of the article, but it will not be superfluous to repeat it. Many newcomers to trading, when dealing with binary options, find that they do not need any special knowledge in working with them – I figured out where the price would go, clicked on the button and wait. I would like to note that even the simplest initial knowledge about pricing the asset for which the option is presented will significantly reduce your losses. Not to mention the fact that, ideally, for trading binaries for currency pairs, it’s worthwhile to have a proven strategy and trading experience on Forex. One way or another, any forecasting skills should increase the profitability of your investment, reducing losses.

2. Binary options – it’s almost a casino
Many players come to binary options trading like in a casino, focusing on the fact that the instrument is actually a “bet” transaction. We will not say that this is completely wrong – there is still a degree of similarity, however, some practice and knowledge in the field of analysis of exchange instruments, and luck rates turn into a well-thought-out strategy that increases the probability of winning from 50/50 to a more attractive number .
If you came into binary options trading for adrenaline and fun, then understanding the process will not reduce your pleasant emotions, but only increase it, because you will start opening deals wisely. Do you agree? Then read the first paragraph again.
3. Short-term binary options are more profitable
Yes, of course, to buy an option contract of 60 seconds and earn 75% of profit in a minute is very tempting. However, it is important to understand that making money on such short (minute, hour) intervals is not so easy, because the noise in the market can turn a profitable contract into a minus in one second. Trends over long periods are much more predictable, and therefore it is better to start with them, not to chase quick and risky profits and learn to see the market.
4. Quick transition to high rates
Quick and easy profits often give rise to euphoria among beginners of binary options trading. Having made 2-3-5-10 profitable trades in small amounts, the trader begins to think: “Why am I trifling if I can buy a contract more expensive and get more money?”. Remember, 11 trades can become unprofitable. Of course, we do not claim that this must happen, but you need to increase the contract value gradually, using about 2-5% of your total deposit. Only in this case, the profit will settle in your pockets stably.
5. Trading only one type of binary options
There are quite a lot of binary options, each of them can be used in different market situations, so you should not focus on one thing when you can use all the features of the market and binary options. It is not necessary to actively get involved in different options, but we recommend you try different options and choose the most suitable for yourself.
In general, binary options trading is characterized as more simple and understandable for beginners trading, including because it does not support the principles of margin requirements and does not require knowledge of money management. Any interested speculator can already evaluate his strength on a demo account with numerous brokers that provide this service.
